Family is central in this book with Malik fiercely fighting to protect his sisters, all the way to the end which will make you cry (GET TISSUES!!). A Song of Wraiths and Ruin is a fun ride, with our main protagonists, Karina and Malik having to kill each other for valid reasons…to save their family. Seriously, I have a whole review screaming about this book. Murder plots with a dash of siblings who would literally kill to save each other.

  • Warning: this book will leave you in a state of shock and you’ll likely be stalking the author for any updates and probably hoping you get your hands on an arc of the sequel like I am (ahem, Zoraida, I am very available to read the sequel). Its rich with mystery, political intrigue and coupled with a character who, at first sight, appears introverted but as we go through her POV we soon discover that Renata is very driven, ambitious and hopeful, all traits found in Ali from the Daevabad series. It is a Latinx authored novel, inspired by the Spanish Inquisition and follows a female protagonist, who is thrown into the vicious court of her people’s oppressors as she aims to prove herself to the cause, all the while navigating through her traumatic experiences during her time under the very man she is now spying on.
